The key to decorating your office is maintaining that perfect blend of professional and personal. Always keep in mind that this is still your office, and you want it to look like a place of full concentration, especially when clients or higher-ups pay you a visit. But that doesn't mean you can't enjoy yourself while you're there, by mixing business with pleasure.

 OFFICE FURNITURE

You want to find a desk that provides optimum space and ultimate comfort. Chances are that you spend entire days sitting at your desk, so make sure your table is right, and that your chair is comfortable and ergonomically suited to your body. Sacrifice style for comfort when it comes to your chair -- if you don't feel right in it, yeah, you might have a great looking office, but your posture sure will suffer.

On the other hand, stackable conference chairs are a great idea, as they don't take up space when they're not being used, and are handy for when you have meetings in your office.

You'll want a shelf that'll be able to stock all your books, so again, optimum space is crucial.

Also, a smaller storage shelf or file cabinet is usually necessary; it doesn't have to be sky-high, it's easy to find a smaller one. Again, make sure that the shelves are consistent with the rest of your furniture.

 CHOOSING THE LIGHTING

Lighting is a very important feature of a room. Equipping your home office with dim and subdued lights is not a very good idea. We say that because you initially set up your office for working when you're at home. Needless to say, when the lights are low or dim, our brains begin to think of things other than work. Namely sleep! This is especially dangerous when you have a deadline to meet or need to work uninterrupted for long periods of time. What is a solution to this? When planning your now office decor, plan on purchasing bright lights. I'm not talking about halogen spotlights, but bright and effective office lamps that will provide sufficient lighting for your room. Three head floor lamps are perfect when used along with ceiling lights and are placed systematically around the room. For instance, there are four corners to most rooms. Placing the floor lamps in each corner will provide you with the extra light that you need. Also, placing a small desk lamp on your office desk will give you extra lighting to see your papers or books. Instead of curtains, use blinds!

 RUGS

You can add a rug if you have a hardwood floor. Opt for something more classic like a single-tone or Persian-style rug, if you don't want to go through carpeting your entire floor.

 ART
Hang your favorite art pieces on your wall space -- it'll liven up the office and make you look cultured.

 PLANTS

Plants are a great way to brighten up any office, making it homier. If you don't want to worry about having to water them all the time, settle on cacti, which may not be very colorful, but nevertheless add a stylish touch to the room. Don't go overboard and turn your office into an Amazon jungle, but do add some greenery to the office. If you have plants or flowers, get nice vases to complement the botany.

 AQUARIUM

Whether or not you're an avid connoisseur of fish, an aquarium of tropical fish is a great addition to your office, and can even help break the ice when you have guests or clients.

 FRAMES
Place picture frames of friends and family on your desk or wall (keep those to a minimum), and even pictures of important career-related events, like the time you were named "Entrepreneur of the Year", or the time your company won a community service award. Who said the pictures in your office can't also serve as a public relations tool?

 CLOCKS

You may not find it important to wear a watch, but a clock is a must in your office. You can keep it simple or original, so long as it has the same motif as the rest of your décor.

Use your office decoration as a way to make the time spent working indoors a little more enjoyable and stress-free, but always remember to keep it professional and remain within the corporate image of your company. Remember, the more you enjoy your office, the more you'll want to be there.
